Unfiltered

The wine was not passed through a filter before bottling. This does not mean that no other cellar work was involved.

Explained simply

Before bottling, the wine was not passed through a filter. Tiny particles may remain—like cloudy apple juice—without that being automatically good or bad.

In more detail

Filtration can remove yeasts, suspended matter and microorganisms before bottling. Unfiltered wine skips that step, but it may still have been settled, clarified or stabilised in other ways. Unfiltered therefore describes one specific cellar choice.

What to look for

A little haze or sediment may occur. Still check the wine and storage information; “unfiltered” is neither a quality guarantee nor a fault diagnosis.
