Minerality

Minerality is a tasting word for several different impressions, such as stony smells or salty flavours.

How it works

People do not all use it in the same way. One writer may mean a wet-stone smell, another a salty impression in the mouth. The word is not a measurement of minerals in wine.

How to use this when choosing

Ask which specific sensation is meant. A stony smell or salty flavour is an easier clue for choosing than mineral on its own.
