Barrique

A barrique is a small wooden barrel: it gives wine a place to mature and can also bring oxygen exposure and wood-derived aromas.

Barrique refers to a small wooden barrel, commonly oak. Wood species, toast, barrel age and time of use affect how strongly it shapes the wine.

‘Barrique’ alone does not tell you whether vanilla or toast will be obvious. A used barrel usually behaves differently from a new one.
