Barrique

A new barrel can give wine noticeable wood aromas, such as vanilla or toast. The wood is heated during barrel making, which also affects the aromas it can contribute.

If you prefer little oak flavour, ask whether the barrels were new or had been used several times. An older barrel usually contributes less wood aroma; time in the barrel matters too.
